The much-anticipated second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video this week, and audience theories has been rampant.
The first season introduces a diverse group of characters residing in Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds accompanied by musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and builds tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season differ greatly, but certain threads emerge over and over: Could Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the mysterious "deal" constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with audience demands as the main goal," the creator commented earlier this year. "But I believe that me being a devotee of the series implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have received approval by the production companies, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to be patient for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how fast season 2 progresses, and how much of what they're waiting for happens now.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some really amazing reveals, some really cool backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — particularly in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a couple people create a bingo card about season 2," she says. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
